Carn an Gobhar from a bit south of Sgurr na Clachan Geala.

2.30pm, 04/09/05

~ A mellow sleepy September afternoon on Sgurr na Lapaich. Of these hills I needed only Gobhar for the 3rd Munro round, but carried on to Lapaich, though without much enthusiasm. Lolling by the cairn in the sultry sun-haze, I grew bored and ungrateful - until I had what I might be pretentious enough to call an epiphany: a vision of a time in the future, how near or far was not clear, when I would happily give everything I owned to be able to lie barefoot on Sgurr na Lapaich and gaze across Loch Monar at the sharp peak of the Red Bird, the sprawl of Maoile Lunndaidh.

This lent an unusual relish to the rest of the day.
