Fuaran Allt nan Uamh.8.30am, 13/06/03~ A not very satisfactory shot of one of the most remarkable natural phenomena in the northern highlands. This burn, instantly 8 or 10 feet wide, issues from - what? From a little pool at the foot of the bank on the left, the surface of which shows scarcely a ripple.I lingered here for maybe half an hour on the way to Breabag, and as long on the way back, entranced by this strange enchanted spot - in Ancient Greece such a place would certainly have been the abode of Nymphs. The crag on the right at the back of the glen is Creag nan Uamh, which contains the famous Bone Caves.Arctic fox / Arctic lemming / Badger / Bank vole / Brown bear / Common shrew / Hare / Northern lynx / Northern vole / Otter / Ox / Pig / Polar bear / Rabbit / Rat vole / Reindeer / Stoat / Tundra vole / Water vole / Weasel / Wild cat / Wolf / Woodmouse is a provisional list of the mammalian species whose bones have been found in the caves. Some human remains were carbon-dated to around 2600BC.
