Alpe Vouasse, 2393m. A derelict mountain hut below the Clocher de Vouasse in the Combe de l'A, off the Val d'Entremont. I believe a degree of restoration was carried out in 2004, to bothy standard rather than hut. 11am, 17/09/98

Cabane du Col de Mille (Commune de Liddes), 2473m, Val d'Entremont. Aiguille du Tour is the dominant peak, I think, with le Portalet to the left. 2pm, 19/09/98

Cabane François-Xavier Bagnoud (Commune de Bagnes), 2645m. The new Panossière Hut, almost 1km down the moraine from the old hut which was destroyed by an avalanche in March 1988. 2pm, 08/08/00

Laggin Biwak (SAC), 2428m, Simplon side of the Lagginhorn. This pod was placed here in 1983 to replace an earlier hut, 1km further on at 2746m, which was destroyed by a powder avalanche. 3pm, 02/09/01

Хижа Мусала, the Musala Hut, 2430m. 1pm, 20/01/13. On the ordinary route from Borovets to Musala, at 2925m the highest mountain in Bulgaria, and indeed in the whole Balkan peninsula. I wasn't exactly equipped for alpinism, just walked up from the town in denims and trainers with Kahtoolas, so carrying on to the peak was not an option, though I believe it's an easy and well-marked trail, in summer anyway.

I don't know what the capacity of the Musala Hut is (it was shut) but it must get busy in summer, for I understand that this nearby building is used as an annexe for organised groups. 1pm, 20/01/13
