Хижа Мусала, the Musala Hut, 2430m. 1pm, 20/01/13. On the ordinary route from Borovets to Musala, at 2925m the highest mountain in Bulgaria, and indeed in the whole Balkan peninsula. I wasn't exactly equipped for alpinism, just walked up from the town in denims and trainers with Kahtoolas, so carrying on to the peak was not an option, though I believe it's an easy and well-marked trail, in summer anyway.
I don't know what the capacity of the Musala Hut is (it was shut) but it must get busy in summer, for I understand that this nearby building is used as an annexe for organised groups. 1pm, 20/01/13
