The top 200m of the Rimpfischhorn WSW ridge. It is usual to go up the snow slope to a bay on the left at about half-height (a little above the 2 descending figures), followed by a fairly intricate but not difficult scramble up the rock buttress, where there are 2 or 3 fixed stakes.

One day left, a hot and sunny one, and I took a walk up to see what was going on at the Dom Hut. I had heard that it was shut this year, and this trilingual sign on the path above Randa was unambiguous.

At about 2200m the Dom Hut path intersects with the Europaweg, 'der schönste Höhenweg der Alpen', which was opened in 1997, though it soon became clear that sections of the path were seriously threatened by stonefall, particularly here where it crosses (or crossed) the Grabengufer above Randa. Some avalanche tunnels were built to protect the path, but they themselves were destroyed by stonefall. Next idea was to construct this ambitious suspension footbridge high above the gully, 230m long and costing 350,000CHF, which was opened in June 2010. Before the summer was out the bridge itself was hit by falling rocks (the damage can be seen in this photo if you enlarge it), so now this ill-starred section of the Europaweg south of the Europa Hut descends into the forest above Randa.
